Our Sacrifice?

Our Sacrifice?

Over the past couple weeks and months there has been much written about the increasing speed of the demise of the Social Security system and the burgeoning debt being passed to younger generations.

Maybe this is our sacrifice. Maybe we will be asked to bolster the security of two generations, who made our way of living and thinking possible. One generation needing our help sacrificed life and limb fighting an unimaginable war ensuring our freedom and security. The following generation sacrificed family and work/life balance in order to create a vibrant economic environment.

These sacrifices have allowed us to inherit a country where we have the freedom to focus on a balanced life, where we have the freedom to succeed at incredible speed without paying dues as our predecessors had to and where we have the freedom to pursue careers that offer us fulfillment and wholeness.

It is for us to choose whether we are willing to make this sacrifice. Will we accept higher taxes during our working years, potential slower economic growth and a Social Security system that will not support us in the way it has earlier generations?

If we do not, we must let our government and legislators know with a unified voice. If we do, we must accept this sacrifice with grace and love for those whom we are helping. We must recognize we are helping our community and our country as others have done before us.
