More People Downsizing Homes, Adding Roommates
Those dreams of a place all to yourself or a little more storage space might need to be put off for a while. The latest Census data says more Americans are being forced to lived in smaller, more cramped spaces due to eviction or financial difficulties, reports USA Today.
"The number of households that moved in the past year because they were evicted soared 127% to 191,000.
"3.1 million households, or 18% of those who moved in the past year, said they're in a worse home, up 10% from 2007; 2.3 million, or 13%, said they're in a worse neighborhood, a 12% increase."
The number of two-family homes and households with more than five people also rose, often fueled by "boomerang" kids, college grads who move back in with their parents to save money or because they can't find a job.
But telecommuting also jumped 11 percent, so staying at home can't be all that miserable.
