Gov 2.0 -- Next Gen Government
Fiscal crisis, energy, environment. It seems pretty clear that government is needed to get us out of this mess. Government may not be the solution but people are no longer blaming it as the problem.
I will write about the future of government on this blog – Government 2.0. To me, Government 2.0 is simply the next generation of government. It is focused on a few pillars: a new generation of government employees, the rise of Web 2.0 technologies, and a cultural shift towards openness, transparency, and participation.
This isn’t your grandfather’s government. This is a government led by passionate public servants who believe in the mission of the organizations they serve. A government that is using new tools. A government that wants to hear from its citizens and staff for new ideas to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government.
In the course of this blog, I will highlight some of the great thought leadership around Gov 2.0, as well as some of the interesting examples I hear along the way. In a sense, it’s an extension of the work I do running GovLoop.com, the social network for Government 2.0, where more than 11,000 federal, state, and local government folks connect to share best practices and improve government.
