Less Equals More
Eric Swenson
September 1 2010
I recently had a meeting with a support person in my company, and he admitted he is struggling with time management. I said, welcome to the world of information overload! Now, let's talk about a solution. There has been an alarming trend the last five years of people collapsing under the weight of too many burdens. Are you allowing the “busy-ness” of the world to control your life? And, if so, are you willing to... |

La-La-Lasagna!
Melissa A Wychocki
August 31 2010
Cooking should be fun. Turn on some music--I get inspired by Sinatra--and pour a glass of wine. (Note: I learned the hard way that while it’s a good idea to pour that glass of wine, it’s also important to make sure you only sip it until the dish is done. During one dinner party, I got carried away talking with friends and was on to my second glass of wine when it came time to assemble the sauce for my lasagna. Instead... |
A Day Off in Iraq
Matt Persiani
August 30 2010
Matt Persiani, a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, is serving his third tour in Iraq. As U.S. troops withdraw from the restive country, Persiani talks about the quieter days of his service.
To call Iraq a war zone now is a bit of a stretch, especially when comparing it to the battlefields on which our... |
Government Spending: A Bipartisan Problem
Eric Lowe
August 30 2010
Nothing is more dangerous to current political discourse than partisan politics. Highly relevant to this hypothesis is the on-going debate over the budget deficit and who, exactly, is to blame for our debt crisis. Republicans will point the finger at the Obama administration, citing the high costs of TARP (neglecting to acknowledge that the first bailout was passed under President Bush), health care reform and the bank bailouts. Democrats... |

If you want to escape to a place where you can fill your days with outdoor adventures and retire at night to urban comforts--with a healthy dose of Southern charm--consider booking a flight to Charlotte, N.C. After I recently spent a weekend there, here is what I can recommend: |
Conquering the Kitchen and Learning to Cook
Melissa A Wychocki
July 26 2010
Many Young Professionals don’t regularly cook, have never thrown a dinner party and might even be overwhelmed at the thought. If you had asked me five years ago to make dinner it would have consisted of spaghetti with a splash of Ragu. I didn’t know my way around a kitchen, and didn’t care. Then we bought a house with a large kitchen. Maybe it was years of pent up passion, maybe it was the fact that I actually had space... |
Do You Have a Case of “Bad Attitude?”
Eric Swenson
July 13 2010
Many members of the U.S. Paralympics hockey team are missing both of their legs. They play hockey sitting on a custom dish and single blade and skate with both arms using shortened sticks. It's incredible to watch. This year the team won the gold medal. The goalie, Steve Cash, had a never-before-recorded shutout, blocking 33 goals. As a former athlete, I was blown away, and I thought about my wimpy attitude at times for having a sore knee.... |
